Supporting the Rapid Growth of a Global Software Provider

With a Private, Managed Network Solution

The Company

Our customer is a global provider of software and analytics solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) market, specifically the Automotive, Agriculture, and Transportation sectors. The company’s network powers billions of data transmissions from millions of connected devices all over the world, channelling that traffic into a core network for storage and analytics.

The Challenge

One of the company’s biggest challenges is rapidly and efficiently expanding the bandwidth of its network to keep pace with the growing number of devices being added to it. Recent growth had increased the number of these devices from 5 million to 17 million, pushing past the company’s utilisation ceiling of 65-70% and threatening to disrupt performance and constrain future growth.

However, the challenge was bigger than simply adding more capacity. As the company’s bandwidth journey had developed, the network had grown organically from multiple 1Gb Ethernet connections between sites, to 10Gb, then 25Gb, all managed in-house.

But this incremental network growth had now reached design and performance limitations, as well as becoming a management overhead that required specific optical network management skills and was distracting the internal IT team from their core focus - to extend user reach and connect more devices to the network.

Not only did the company need a network with more capacity, it needed a new design and methodology, as well as a new more efficient form of management.

The Solution

We have been the customer’s network partner since 2016, supporting them as their bandwidth requirements have become larger and more complex. Our experience with the customer, the quality and scale of our network, and our skilled technical teams made us the natural choice to support the evolution of their bandwidth requirements.

To meet these new challenges, we designed and built a private, managed MPLS solution bespoke to the customer’s unique requirements. This is Private Connect.

Capacity for Today’s Demands

The solution consists of a dedicated, high-capacity 100Gb Ethernet core network between six key data centres, where data is securely stored and analysed, as well as over twenty 1Gb ‘Reach’ locations on our network. These act as data ingress points from devices in the customer’s key user locations, feeding traffic into the core.

The Solution

Dependable Network Management

The customer’s network is managed by euNetworks’ Network Operation Centre (NOC), operating 24/7 carrier-class support and maintenance backed by disciplined SLAs and visible availability metrics. This dependable service layer safeguards network performance and uptime, freeing the customer’s in-house IT team to focus on its core objective of data management and growing device and user numbers on the network.

The Solution

Scalability for Tomorrow’s Growth

Future capacity is built into the network at various levels. Day 1 network capacity of 100Gb comfortably exceeds the customer’s utilisation ceiling, and the new hardware is pre-installed with 200Gb capabilities for the next cycle of capacity upgrades

The solution runs on our own core 400Gb network, which means new fibre capacity is always available and can be rapidly deployed, and our expansive and ever-growing long haul and metropolitan networks provides a wide range of options for future new ‘Reach’ locations across Europe. When the customer’s requirements increase and expand, our network is ready.
